Sumner County Schools maintains a district calendar with school closures, board meetings and other district events. How to check whether an event will work for your needs

Mobility, parking and seating

Ask specific questions rather than relying on the word “accessible.” Useful questions include:

• Where is the closest accessible parking or passenger drop-off point?
• Is the route from parking to the entrance paved, level and free of temporary obstacles?
• Are accessible restrooms available at the event area?
• Is there wheelchair or companion seating, and can it be reserved?
• Will chairs be available for seniors or attendees who cannot stand for long periods?
• Are food, merchandise, registration and activity areas reachable without stairs?
• If the event is outdoors, what happens if grass, gravel or mud makes the route difficult?

For outdoor events, ask whether the organizer can identify a specific accessible entrance and viewing area. A venue may comply with accessibility requirements while a temporary festival layout creates additional barriers.

Sensory, communication and service needs

If you need ASL interpretation, real-time captioning, assistive listening equipment, large-print materials or another communication support, request it in writing and ask when the organizer needs the request.

For sensory needs, ask about amplified music, fireworks, crowd density, flashing lights, designated quiet space, re-entry policies and whether the event has a lower-stimulation time. Do not assume that a family-oriented or free event is sensory-friendly unless the organizer says so.

Service-animal policies can vary by venue and event format. Ask about the event’s published policy and the location of relief areas without assuming that pets and service animals are treated the same way.

Caregivers, seniors and families

Caregivers may need to know whether companion tickets are required, whether seating can keep a group together and whether the event has a predictable end time. Seniors may benefit from asking about benches, shade, indoor alternatives, parking distance and access to restrooms.

For children, ask about stroller access, changing areas, quiet spaces, age restrictions and whether a caregiver must remain with the child. These details are especially important for events held in parks, school gyms, parking lots or temporary tents.

Requesting an ADA accommodation from the City of Gallatin

The City of Gallatin says people who need an auxiliary aid, service or policy modification to participate in a City program, service or activity should contact the ADA Coordinator as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. The city asks for the requester’s name, address and telephone number, the program or facility location and a description of the accommodation needed.

Gallatin Miracle Park is an all-inclusive park at 240 Champion Drive, Gallatin, within Triple Creek Park. The city describes it as ADA-compliant recreation for people with mobility impairments, people with special needs and the broader community. The listed public hours are daily from dawn to dusk.

The park page is a useful resource for inclusive outdoor recreation, but it does not mean every event held elsewhere in Triple Creek Park has the same features. Confirm the exact activity area, parking and event setup.

Triple Creek Park

Triple Creek Park lists an ADA-compliant playground, pedal park and baseball field, along with a 10-foot-wide concrete walking trail. The park’s published address is 1333 Touchdown Drive, Gallatin. These fixed amenities may help with planning a visit, but temporary event layouts and field conditions can affect access.

A practical event-planning checklist

Before attending, save the official event page and confirm:

1. The date, start time and cancellation status.
2. The exact entrance, parking area and drop-off location.
